Who is OneWheaton?

You might be wondering who we are. How many of us are there? (Many!) We are alumni young and old, men and women, LGBTQ and straight allies, all connected by a desire to support students who feel isolated during their time at Wheaton College. Inspired by the "It Gets Better" campaign and emboldened by similar alumni movements happening at other Christian universities we have come together as a voice of freedom and hope for students who feel their sexuality relegates them to a life of loneliness and isolation. We strongly affirm that it doesn't. In our post-Wheaton lives, we have traversed the contradictions we once thought irreconcilable, and our sexuality has become an integral part of our broader pursuit of justice, compassion, and love. As people of integrity we affirm the full humanity and dignity of every human being regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Read the full story.

On April 29, 2011 a group from OneWheaton went on to Wheaton College campus and circulated a copy of a letter affirming the full dignity of every human being regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. If you are a Wheaton alumni and would like to sign on to this letter, please email your name and graduation year to one@onewheaton.com.

Our Purpose Statement

OneWheaton is an open, inclusive, and safe community for LGBTQ and Allied alumni and students of Wheaton College (IL). We support students and alumni with compassion, counsel, and resources so that they can live full, vibrant lives. We affirm LGBTQ individuals and the relationships that are the natural expression of their identity.

Our Goals

Every good grassroots organization has goals. Here are a few of ours:

  • To create a safe haven/accessible resource for current Wheaton students who need someone to talk to without fear of judgement or reprisal
  • To encourage dialogue between students
  • To offer a differing theological position and help to counter the damaging rhetoric that comes out of the evangelical tradition
  • To recognize that everyone's journey is different and work to respect that
  • To bring awareness to the Christian community of the struggles of LGBTQ students
